BERKSHIRE HATHAWAY'S ACME BRICK COMPANY SELECTS ENVIANCE TO SUPPORT ENTERPRISE-WIDE ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE ACTIVITIES Internet-based EMIS streamlines and automates compliance across twenty-eight facilities FT. WORTH, TX and CARLSBAD, CA - February 23, 2005 - Enviance, the leading provider of Internet-based, on demand systems for the management of environmental, health and safety (EHS) compliance activities, and Acme Brick, a Berkshire Hathaway Company (NYSE: BRKA), today announced that Acme Brick, the largest American-owned brick company, is implementing the Enviance System at its twenty-eight manufacturing facilities across the United States. Acme Brick is using Enviance to streamline and automate its environmental compliance activities, with the initial focus on air permitting including Title V, task management, and document control. The company evaluated several EHS software alternatives, including ESS and ESP, and selected the Enviance System based on its core compliance solution offering, ease of use, cost effectiveness and ability to scale. Acme is deploying the Enviance System to create an enterprise-wide framework for compliance assurance. The initial phase builds a standard compliance assurance process and work practice for issued air permit and Title V compliance across all its facilities. In addition, the Enviance System allows for the seamless expansion of capabilities enabling Acme Brick to build out integrated system functionality, including emissions event reporting and stormwater compliance programs, when they need it. Because the Enviance System is delivered as a service over the Internet, it requires no internal IT support or infrastructure. The browser-based user interface is familiar to Acme's community of users and is expected to help drive adoption. These factors contributed to the company's decision to have its environmental management team lead the implementation, with a plan to roll out the System on a regional basis. The company expects the Enviance System to be fully deployed across all its facilities by late 2005. According to Mike O'Connor, Acme Brick's Corporate Environmental Manager, the Enviance System will streamline the often overwhelming activity of managing and organizing related compliance data and tasks across the company's twenty-eight plants. With Enviance's integrated platform of features like compliance workflow and task management capabilities that deliver compliance and reporting alerts, Acme anticipates a significant reduction in time required to assure compliance. And with all the data residing in one place for all of its facilities, the amount of time required for reporting will be reduced significantly. "The reporting requirements to maintain our commitment to environmental stewardship are significant. If we're constantly spending too much time collecting information that isn't easily available or centralized, then we lose focus on overall operational improvements in our EHS activities," O'Connor said. "We looked at several alternatives and Enviance was the hands-down choice based on its ease of use, low total cost of ownership and its ability to integrate with our existing information systems. The bottom line with Enviance is that it will make our jobs easier and help us confidently certify compliance." "Environmental management information systems are most effective when they're embraced across an organization and quickly become a part of everyday work habits. The Enviance commitment to intuitive usability and seamless delivery differentiates our approach," said Lawrence Goldenhersh, President and CEO, Enviance. "Built by domain experts for domain experts, the Enviance System is delivering up-to-the-minute, enterprise-class capabilities to the desktops of Acme Brick employees every single day. We're proud to welcome a company with such a history of quality to the growing list of those who are making Enviance a central part of their commitment to compliance." About Enviance
