Judges FAQs
The Second Annual Environmental March Madness Tournament evaluates the strength of environmental degree programs and curriculum, environmental opportunities for students, and campus sustainability efforts in colleges and universities around the country. The tournament runs in parallel with the NCAA college basketball championship.
In order to participate, department heads must fill out a survey detailing their school’s environmental and campus-wide programs by January 25, 2013. Our panel of distinguished judges will then select the “Sustainable 16”.
2013 Environmental March Madness Winner
After being selected for the “Sustainable 16”, students and faculty will submit short video testimonials or other materials highlighting their schools’ on-campus and curriculum environmental achievements. The judges will use this information to narrow the "Sustainable 16" down to the “Environmental Eight,” the “Finest Four” and on April 9 the “National Champion” will be announced.
The winner will be awarded the title of “2013 National Champion” and receive a cash donation of $5,000 to its environmental & sustainability department. The school’s department chair or appointed member of faculty will also enjoy an all-expenses paid trip to San Diego, CA to attend the 2013 Enviance User Conference April 22-26, where he or she will have the opportunity to be part of a discussion panel. The top two students from schools advancing to the Final Four, with the most compelling supporting materials and tournament participation, will be awarded Google Nexus tablets.
A panel of judges, consisting of industry experts, evaluate contest submissions and choose the 2013 Environmental March Madness National Champion.
