Enviance, a leading provider of Environmental ERP software, together with Environmental Leader, the leading publication for environmental and sustainability news, is hosting a March Madness tournament to determine the university with the best undergraduate programs in environmental studies and sustainability.

The tournament will run in conjunction with the NCAA college basketball championship tournament and officially begins when Enviance and Environmental Leader announce their “Sustainable 16”, the top 16 colleges that will compete for the title of top environmental school in the U.S., on March 12, 2012. The “Sustainable 16” will be narrowed down to the “Environmental 8”, which will be announced on Friday, March 26, followed by the “Final 4”, announced on March 30. The winning school will be named on April 2.

What prizes are awarded to the winner?

The “National Champion” is awarded a cash donation of $5,000 to its environmental & sustainability department. The department chair will also enjoy an all-expense paid trip to San Diego to attend the Enviance User Conference April 16-20, where he or she will lead a panel titled, “What Tomorrow’s Environmental Leaders Need to Know.”

The top two students from schools advancing to the “Final Four”, with the most compelling video or essay submissions, will be awarded netbooks.

When will winners be announced?

The winning university will be announced on April 2.

Who is hosting the contest?

Environmental Leader is the leading daily trade publication keeping corporate executives fully informed about energy, environmental and sustainability news.

How do I participate?

Department heads were asked to share program marketing materials and fill out a short survey for background/information on their school’s environmental programs, to be considered for the “Sustainable 16” list.

If your university has been selected for the “Sustainable 16”, you will be notified and responsible for sharing information with students and faculty on how to submit short video testimonials, OR a short 300-word essay, explaining why your school’s program deserves to be the winner of the tournament.

SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS – INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING!

If you are one of the schools that entered to participate in the March Madness Tournament you can increase your chances of winning by asking your students and faculty to send supporting materials until March 19, 2012. It’s a win-win! The top two students from schools advancing to the “Final Four”, with the most compelling video or essay submissions, will be awarded netbooks. There are three ways to participate:

• Average freshman retention rate
• Student to faculty ratio
• Graduation rates
• Hire rates post-graduation
• Diversity of courses offered

Criteria will be calculated on a scale of 1-5, then averaged by judges to determine top schools, and then the winner. If your school has scored high enough to place in the “Environmental 8”, another score, based on videos and essays submitted by students and faculty, will be factored in to determine the “Final Four” and overall champion.

Who are the judges?

A panel of judges, consisting of industry experts, will evaluate contest submissions and choose our eventual champion.

Panel of Judges:

Velislava Ivanova,
