2017 NAEM EHS Forum: 5 Can't Miss Events

2017 marks the 25
th year that NAEM has hosted its annual EHS and Sustainability Management Forum. Even while celebrating a quarter-century, the conference, which will take place October 25th-27th in Fort Lauderdale, FL, remains one of the largest annual gatherings for EHS professionals. The Forum’s program offers targeted, educational events for attendees, ranging from panel discussions to presentations from industry leaders. There’s even a few fun group outings in the mix!

Here’s five events that we don’t want to miss:

Delivering More Value with Fewer Resources
Wed. October 25th, 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm

We’ve all been there – facing down a major professional challenge with less resources at our disposal than we’d like. This session aims to facilitate discussions on how to maximize efficiency within the constraints presented by shrinking budgets and other resource shortages. Featured speakers from industry leaders like GE, Comcast, Petco, and Advance Auto Parts will answer attendee questions about their present challenges and examine ways to leverage existing partnerships, technology, and processes to thrive in trying times.

A Generation On: Environmental Protection in the 21st Century
Thurs. October 26th, 8:30 am - 10:00 am (keynote session)

As we move further into the 21st century, it’s likely that environmental protection will come from a combination of government regulations and modern, sustainably-minded business practices. Dan Esty, Hillhouse Professor at Yale University and Director of the Yale Center for Environmental Law and Policy, will used this session to outline a vision for a more effective approach to environmental, energy, and sustainability issues management that centers on innovation, emphasizing choice and advancing a systems approach that recognizes interconnections across issues.

Improving Performance by Integrating EHS Management Systems into the Business
Thurs. October 26th, 11:00 am – 12:30 pm

Wouldn’t it be great if all of your business systems talked to each other? Integrating enterprise management systems can be mission-critical in the face of the complex modern challenges facing EHS decision-makers. This session will give you the opportunity to learn how to engage more effectively with your existing systems and processes, as well as leverage data to enhance your EHS initiatives.

Creating Metrics that Resonate from the Shop Floor to Senior Management
Thurs. October 26th, 1:45 pm - 3:15 pm

This session, chaired by DuPont’s Mark Hause, will review NAEM’s research into establishing metrics and provide case histories on how various companies established their key performance indicators (KPIs) while empowering each level of their workforces. Featured speakers will include EHS leaders from Comcast, NAEM,  L.B. Foster Co., and BNSF Railway.

Women's Leadership Networking Breakfast
Fri. October 27th, 8:30 am - 10:00 am

On the final day of the conference, Tracie Sheehan, Chief Health, Quality, and Sustainability Officer at ARYZTA will discuss her career path and how she shares her experiences to develop future leaders and motivates people to make a difference. Conference attendees with have the opportunity to mingle and socialize while gaining valuable insights from Sheehan’s experience being female leader in quality, environmental, safety and sustainability.
