Wrap-up for the Roadmap to a Best-in-Class Safety Strategy Webinar

Kevin Prouty, Senior Vice President, Research , Aberdeen Group

On October 16, 2014, Aberdeen Group hosted a webinar that was sponsored by Remedy Interactive. The topic was how to build a roadmap for your safety management strategy. The speakers were myself, Ken Colonna, Director of Safety & Health of a leading international family entertainment and media enterprise, and Ben Archibald, CTO of Remedy Interactive. It was a great discussion and, while there were some broad discussions about safety culture and how companies can build a Best-in-Class culture, the discussion ended up focusing on analytics in a Safety Management System (SMS).

Figure 1 validates what came out of the discussion. As Ken Colonna stated, “Data analytics is as important as the data itself.” Ben validated that statement, and presented some great insight into how technology has enabled the use of analytics in safety management, across more organizations. For those interested in how analytics can and should be applied to your safety data, view a recording of the webinar.

Overall, some great recommendations came out of the webinar:

  • Apply analytics to safety processes like JHA and incident management to bring these processes to the next level
  • Use grassroots methods to get your employees involved in frontline safety management
  • Use technology to enable the infrastructure of a Best-in-Class safety management system
  • Read the Aberdeen report on Safety and Operational Excellence
